A little background . . .

For more than 45 years, LOGOS has partnered with local churches in a ministry to children and youth that is based upon the spiritual intent of the early Christian church as expressed in the Bible’s book of Acts. As a result, many LOGOS weekly ministries are composed of four parts that are integrated within a nurturing environment of Christian relationships. The four parts of the LOGOS weekly ministry model are:

Multi-Part Ministry Model

Bible Study - Bible study nurtures youth and children into intelligent, obedient, and biblically-informed discipleship. In grade level groups, each LOGOS class uses a curriculum that is designed to meet their unique needs and learning capabilities. We have developed Faith for Life2 to be a powerful Bible study resource for any weekly LOGOS ministry.

Worship Skills - Worship is essential and central to the Christian community. In Worship Skills young people learn about worship and prepare to lead in the Sunday morning service of worship. This is typically done through singing, bell, or speaking choirs, drama, or movement and dance.

Recreation Play – Recreation Play allows LOGOS young people to experience great fun at the expense of no one else. They participate in games and active play, do crafts, or experience the hobby or special interest of a member of the congregation. When we reveal ourselves in play, we strengthen friendships, and when conflicts occur, we practice our Child of God theology.

Family Time - Family Time provides a joyous, intergenerational celebration of personhood over a shared meal as LOGOS young people experience being part of the family of God. Young people are assigned to tables along with one or two adults who act as "table parents." The group around the table becomes a family as they share meals together throughout the year. Food is served family style. Conversation is purposeful. Life is celebrated!

Pastor Dick and Joyce Jebsen were a huge help to everyone as LOGOS visited Hawaii. They taught a traditional Hawaiian game during recreation, Tininkling Sticks. and taught us Hawaiian words during dinner.

We called everyone to dinner using the Conch shell.

We had a special "Hula" prayer for our table grace.

Hawaiian shaved ice was our dessert.

Everyone enjoyed the simple Hawaiian game - Lummi Sticks - for a table activity.

January 7 Seattle, WA

We got into the alternative/Seattle vibe by practing Yoga during Recreation.

Our dining area was decorated to look like a Seattle coffeehouse, complete with dim lighting. We enjoyed flavored coffees (and hot cocoa!) with our meal which was . . . . of course! . . . . FISH!

Since Seattle is so rainy, our family activity was the Umbrella Game. Can't really explain it or it would give it all away. . . . Guess you just HAD TO BE THERE!

ROOT Beer was on the menu this week as we visited Wisconsin - Land of beer and cheese!
Since Wisconsin has such a strong German heritage, we said Grace in German.

We nearly had to call our "Smokey the Bear" because we were threatened by a real life forest fire! It turned out to be 40 candles on Scott Harrell's Birthday cake!

Start Spreadin' the News . . . . LOGOS visited New York City!

Some LOGOS participants came dressed as New York Yankees and the Statue of Liberty, others tried their best to fit in with the fashionistas on the Upper East Side.

Our menu consisted of the kind of food you'd be able to buy from a street vendor in Central Park: hot dogs, soft pretzels, and New York style cheesecake for dessert.

As ususal . . . everyone LOVED the food!

New York Fashion Week
Each table chooses a model, assembles a designer outfit. The model walks the "catwalk" with commentary provided by Heather.

October 8 Mississippi River

Overalls, straw hats, and red handkerchiefs were appropriate attire for our trip down the Mighty Mississippi river.

Recreation included a unique "Eat the doughnut (and/or Peep) off the string" game which resulted in dirty faces and and lots of laughs!

Grace was to the tune of Zip-a-dee-doo-dah from Disney's Song of the South:

The menu consisted of fried catfish, hushpuppies, coleslaw, fruit salad, and miles and miles of Mississippi Mud cake.

They work real hard to make real sure
Our bodies and souls are fed.

Family activity included charting the course of the Mighty Missisippi (naming all the states bordering on the east and west of the river) followed by an ad lib where each word had to start with an M-I-S-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I.

October 1 Hollywood CA

Our second stop was the star-studded city of Hollywood, CA. Our table grace was to the tune of the Addams Family:

As they might do in Hollywood, we skipped dinner and instead attended a "Mocktail" party complete with Raspberry Lemonade served in martini glasses. Our meal consisted of a variety of appetizers which were eaten as we "mingled" with other guests. Everyone had a movie name, character or setting taped to their back and we asked "yes or no questions" to find out who or what we were.

After we cleaned up, we thanked our cooks to the tune of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

Somewhere out in the kitchen,

Who fix us wonderful meals,
And that really is no joke.

Somehow weekly at LOGOS,
They know how
To make food good and nutritious,
Please won't you take a bow.

For our family activity, each table drew a household product out of a shopping bag. Then each table had to create a 1 minute commercial to sell that product.

September 24 - God Bless America

Family Time started with GRACE. Table parents started and each person at the table added to the prayer. We gave thanks for people (or sports teams!) from a state other than Arkansas.

We had a great American meal: Hamburgers, chips, and veggies with ranch dip followed by Apple Pie a la mode for dessert.

We cleaned our plate
We even at the beans!

Our family activity was assembling a 100 piece puzzle of the United States. The trick was no one was allowed to see the cover of the puzzle box! Everyone had to use their geography knowledge to complete the puzzle.

September 14 - LOGOS Parent Meeting

Idaho was our theme for the LOGOS Parent Meeting on September 14th. Our lunch menu included baked potatoes with all the toppings and fit the theme perfectly.

Our family activity was a Potato Roll Relay race and resulted in a few rug burned noses!
